Principal Software Engineer (Application Networking) - Platform Infrastructure @Elastic

Overview

The role involves a Principal Software Engineer position within the Platform Infrastructure focusing on Application Networking at Elastic. The engineer will set the technical direction and architectural design for Elastic Cloud's application networking.

Key Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for application networking initiatives, owning designs from proposal through availability.
• Lead development of Ingress, private connectivity, DNS, and security controls at scale for Elastic Cloud.
• Lead multi-quarter, cross-organizational projects, guiding them to delivery.
• Raise operational quality, leading investigations and participating in on-call rotation.
• Mentor and support engineers, serve as a subject matter expert and technical advisor.
• Partner with product management and technical stakeholders on trade-offs and roadmap direction.
• Champion improvements to security, stability, and cost efficiency.

Requirements

• Experience with building software and setting technical direction for complex distributed systems.
• Deep expertise in application networking and cloud-native architecture.
• Experience in building large-scale distributed systems.
• Ability to own projects from beginning to end, including technical design.
• Experience with high-availability SaaS platforms and improving reliability.
• Proven track record of using AI for development and system optimization.
• Ability to collaborate across functions and teams effectively.
• Capability to work autonomously and influence directions without formal authority.
