Overview

Affirm is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead technical excellence in core consumer experiences, focusing on Marketplace and Search. This role involves collaboration with engineering leaders to build scalable and reliable solutions, shape best practices, guide architectural decisions, and drive critical initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Define the technical direction and strategic initiatives in Marketplace, Search, Ads Platform, and App Experiences.
• Champion and implement technical excellence in collaboration with stakeholders across all teams.
• Create an ownership culture within teams, ensuring accountability and efficiency in building for scale.
• Guide and deliver critical user experiences that provide customer value quickly.
• Design and implement core platform components to enable new products and features.
• Architect decisions on tools and technologies to support consistency and reliability.
• Mentor engineers and champion best practices.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience across the stack, with proven improvements in backend architecture.
• Experience with languages such as React Native, Javascript, or Kotlin.
• Success in leading critical projects with cross-organizational impact.
• Proven ability in developing and implementing impactful technical strategies.
• Project management or people management experience.
• Strong collaborative skills across engineering and stakeholders.
• Customer-first mindset in technical decision-making.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
